CNN’s Erin Burnett pressed an NYU law professor on whether Fauci is in real trouble after pleading the Fifth a staggering 111 times — and the answer was blunt: it may have made things worse. The professor said the pardon likely shields Fauci from criminal jeopardy, but that also undercuts the Fifth Amendment play and could leave him exposed to contempt if he refuses to answer. Burnett noted the optics are brutal, especially with the “perjury trap” defense, which to most people sounds less like protection and more like a refusal to tell the truth.
