A Destin doctor is now staring down second-degree manslaughter charges after a nightmare surgery allegedly turned deadly: prosecutors say Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky removed the wrong organ during an August 2024 procedure, causing catastrophic blood loss and the death of 70-year-old William Bryan of Alabama on the operating table. A Walton County grand jury has indicted Shaknovsky, and investigators say the case followed an extensive probe into the killing that has jolted Florida’s medical community.
