Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., are pushing for votes on war powers resolutions in Congress to handcuff President Donald Trump’s use of the military in Iran.

Congress is suddenly channeling its inner referee, waving a big yellow flag at the Commander-in-Chief’s sandbox after joint bombing sprees with Israel against Iran sparked a bipartisan “Hey, wait a minute!” moment. Lawmakers from both parties, who usually can’t agree on what flavor of coffee to sip, are now united in trying to snatch the toy shovel away—demanding votes to clip presidential war powers faster than you can say “Do we really want another endless Middle East episode?” Even the ever-persistent Senator Tim Kaine, who’s made a habit of rain-checking surprise military adventures, nearly scored a victory earlier this year before GOP teammates threw the flag. Now, with Congress riding shotgun, it looks like the president’s war chest will need a permission slip—because nobody likes an impulsive war hobbyist, especially when Israel’s playing in the sandbox next door.
