Trump sidesteps backing Sen. John Thune for another term as Senate GOP leader, blasting the filibuster and pressing for risky floor votes that could expose Republican divides. In a Punchbowl News interview, the president declined to say he supports Thune for reelection to the chamber’s top GOP post, while demanding a vote on the budget resolution to unlock reconciliation even if it is doomed to fail. Thune said he plans to force that vote anyway, and Trump also wants the Senate to take up the SAVE Act so he can see who stands with — and against — the election-security measure.
