President Trump on Thursday confirmed his dissatisfaction with a pricey ad campaign that featured Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem.

President Trump expressed his displeasure with a $220 million DHS ad campaign featuring Secretary Kristi Noem urging immigrants to self-deport, denying he approved it despite Noem’s claims, and announced she would be replaced after a contentious Senate hearing where her ad faced sharp criticism. Noem had said Trump instructed her to run the ad to thank him for closing the border, but Trump dismissed the campaign as costly and awkward, noting he spent less to become president and was unaware of it. Despite pushing back against the idea her removal was due to the ad, Trump praised her border work and nominated Sen. Markwayne Mullin to succeed her.
