Trump says the National Park Service drained the Reflecting Pool to repair what he described as massive vandalism, claiming the basin was slashed and torn up by “thugs” in a July 4 aftershock of destruction. He said the damage ran 300 yards, forced crews to empty the pool to fix the water-tight basin, and will keep the landmark out of service until repairs are done — with Trump blasting the culprits as “Country hating sleazebags” who should pay a big price.
