Texas Children’s Hospital has now done what only America could manage: turn a years-long fight over gender medicine into a $10 million settlement, five fired physicians, and the nation’s first “Detransition Clinic,” which sounds less like healthcare than a rebrand dreamed up by a committee with subpoenas. After a three-year investigation, Ken Paxton and the DOJ declared victory in the grand civic tradition of everyone insisting they’re only here for the children while absolutely nobody is acting calm about it. The hospital, for its part, says it’s settling to protect its resources from “endless and costly litigation,” which is bureaucrat-speak for “please stop making us the main character in your moral opera.” And so, in the finest American manner, a secretive, scandal-prone program reportedly became a public cautionary tale, complete with press release triumph, ideological chest-thumping, and the deeply reassuring message that when medicine, politics, and outrage meet, the bill still goes to the taxpayer-adjacent universe.
