Texas’ hardline immigration law SB 4 is back in play after a split federal appeals panel abruptly paused a judge’s injunction, handing Attorney General Ken Paxton a fast-moving win in a high-stakes fight over who controls immigration, deportations and who gets to stay in the state. The 2-1 ruling from the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals slams the brakes on a lower court order that had blocked the law, while civil rights groups vow to keep battling what they call an “abhorrent and blatantly illegal” measure.
