Tejano singer Bobby Pulido has secured the Democratic primary for Texas’ 15th Congressional District, setting up a November showdown against two-term GOP Rep. Monica De La Cruz in a deeply Republican area reshaped by redistricting. Pulido, a Latin Grammy-winning son of a migrant farm worker, is seen by national Democrats as their strongest contender due to his fame and socially conservative stance, despite his nuanced position on abortion. His opponent Ada Cuellar criticized him for being the establishment’s pick and opposing abortion, though Pulido rejects the state's near-total ban. Stretching from near San Antonio to the Mexican border, the district’s redrawing aims to boost Republicans’ House seat count.
