Teenage grocery stockers at Kansas City’s city-backed Sun Fresh have reportedly started carrying tasers, a brutal snapshot of what happens when government tries to run a supermarket and chaos meets the checkout line. The Kansas City Star, which once cheered the idea of a city-run grocery, was forced to eat crow after the Linwood store became a symbol of decline: the city bought the failing shopping center in 2014, the site had already sat vacant for years, and now even shelf stockers say they need protection from customers.
