TALKS TURN “POSITIVE”
Mediators are scrambling to extend the fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire and restart talks before it blows up next week, even as an Iranian military commander threatens to choke off trade across the Persian Gulf, Sea of Oman and Red Sea if Washington does not lift its naval blockade. U.N. chief Antonio Guterres is pressing for renewed negotiations and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while Israel’s ambassador says the first Israel-Lebanon talks were “positive” and that the two sides are “on the same side of the equation.” The diplomacy is moving — but the pressure is rising fast.

The settlers of western Virginia defied the state's vote to secede from the Union, and on June 20 West Virginia formally entered the Union as an anti-slave state.
