Keir Starmer is under fire for being too afraid of his own Left-wing MPs to deliver a hard immigration crackdown, as Tory shadow home secretary Chris Philp warns the Government must not water down its plans. In a sharp letter to Shabana Mahmood, Philp called it “shocking” the measures were left out of the legislative programme and said time is running out to change the rules. The clash lands as fresh Home Office figures show a stampede for British citizenship, with applications surging nearly 20% in a year, from 263,440 to 312,063, ahead of expected tightening.
