Former Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is blasting Gov. Abigail Spanberger as a far-left sellout who’s “lying to voters,” and now the new Democratic governor is detonating a political firestorm of her own after signing gun-control bills on Tuesday and sharpening a proposed assault-firearms ban before sending it back to lawmakers. Republicans say her edits strip out the word “fixed” from the definition of an assault firearm, potentially widening the dragnet to a huge range of semi-automatic rifles and pistols, and House Minority Leader Terry Kilgore warned the move “removes” any doubt that Spanberger is “coming for our firearms.” The backlash was instant, and the Justice Department is expected to challenge the measure on constitutional grounds.
