Social Security recipients may be staring at a bigger bump in 2027 — but only because inflation is heating up again. New government data showing prices and gasoline costs surging has pushed one estimate of the COLA to 3.2%, up sharply from 1.7% just last month, according to analyst Mary Johnson. The jump comes as March inflation hit its highest level in nearly two years, underscoring the brutal tradeoff: a larger benefit increase, but only after Americans get squeezed harder at the pump and the checkout line.
