SHERIFF INDICTED IN JAILBREAK
Louisiana Sheriff Susan Hutson has been indicted in the scandalous New Orleans jailbreak that sent 10 inmates running through a hole behind a toilet and ignited a massive manhunt. The 30-count grand jury indictment charges her with malfeasance, obstruction of justice and falsifying public records, with prosecutors saying her poor management and refusal to follow basic legal requirements helped enable the escape — even as she is not accused of opening the door herself. All 10 fugitives were eventually recaptured, but the fallout is now crashing down on Hutson as she leaves office Monday.
