Chuck Schumer is moving fast to embrace Abdul El-Sayed after the progressive stunned Michigan Democrats by winning the party’s Senate nomination, a race many saw as a proxy war between the left and the establishment. El-Sayed edged Rep. Haley Stevens in a close contest not called until Wednesday morning, and now Democrats are trying to close ranks around one goal: block Trump by flipping the open seat in November.
