Former Deputy Defense Minister Ruslan Tsalikov, closely linked to ousted Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, was arrested on multiple corruption charges including embezzlement, money laundering, and bribery, accused of leading a criminal organization that siphoned state funds from 2017 to 2024. Serving as first deputy defense minister until 2024, Tsalikov is the fourth ex-deputy defense minister prosecuted since Shoigu was replaced by Kremlin economist Andrei Belousov in May 2024. Following Shoigu’s dismissal, Tsalikov transitioned to politics, securing a seat in Tyva’s regional assembly as a United Russia party member, while the court prepares to decide on his pre-trial detention.
