Property taxes are hammering homeowners nationwide — and they’re rising faster than inflation. ATTOM says Americans paid $396.8 billion in 2025 on more than 89.6 million single-family homes, up 3.7% from 2024, with the average bill climbing to $4,427 as the effective rate hit 0.9%, the highest since 2020. Even as estimated home values dipped slightly after last year’s surge, local governments keep cashing in on five years of soaring housing prices, and inflation — still near 3% — is offering little relief.
