France was rocked by chaos after Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League triumph over Arsenal, as clashes between fans and police left 219 people injured, including eight in serious condition, and triggered 780 arrests. Thousands of officers were deployed as unrest snarled bus, train and rail services in Paris, where 57 police were hurt and one person died in an accident on the ring road after rioters tried to block it overnight. With 6,000 police now mobilized for Sunday’s victory parade near the Eiffel Tower, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez promised a “firm” response: freedom of assembly, he said, but not excesses.
