In a decisive move to restore accountability to America’s overburdened immigration system, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has stood firm on enforcing the law by officially ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals. Set to expire in August 2025, the protection—first granted due to past natural disasters—will not be extended, as Noem rightly determined that Haiti’s environmental conditions have improved enough to support the safe return of its citizens. For years, TPS has been misused as a backdoor to permanent residency, but this bold decision sends a clear message: America’s sovereign borders and immigration laws must be respected. With support from interagency partners and a thorough review from USCIS and the State Department, Secretary Noem’s leadership reaffirms that “temporary” must mean temporary, and that the national interest—not political expediency—must guide our immigration policy.
