MIT CLASS PRESIDENT BLASTS ISRAEL, TRIGGERS WALKOUT
At MIT’s 2025 commencement, student class president Megha Vemuri accused the university of being “complicit in genocide” due to its research ties with the Israeli military. She praised student activism calling for MIT to sever ties with Israel, stating, “MIT wants a free Palestine.” Her speech, which was not pre-approved, led to Jewish students walking out and calls for MIT’s president to resign.
MIT barred Vemuri from further graduation events, citing disruption of the ceremony. The controversy follows similar incidents at NYU and George Washington University, where commencement speakers also condemned Israel’
