Mexico is stepping in after the U.S. declined to host Iran’s World Cup squad, with President Claudia Sheinbaum saying her government will allow the team to base itself in Mexico during the tournament. Sheinbaum said FIFA approached Mexico after Washington made clear it did not want Iran staying overnight in the United States, even as the team is set to play three matches there — a diplomatic wrinkle with real World Cup consequences.
