Meta Deletes Trans and Nonbinary Messenger Themes
Meta has deleted the trans and nonbinary themes from its Messenger app, which featured designs reflecting pride flags. This change coincides with the company’s shift towards more conservative perspectives, aligning with the incoming Trump administration.
Employees have raised concerns, citing “total chaos internally at Meta” regarding the anti-LGBTQ+ changes. The trans theme was introduced in June 2021, and the nonbinary theme followed in June 2022, both aimed at supporting LGBTQ+ individuals. The official blog posts announcing these themes are no longer available online.
