The Mazzarella Clan suffers a setback with Roberto’s arrest.

Roberto Mazzarella was on the list of Italy’s most dangerous fugitives, accused of being the head of the Camorra Mazzarella clan, which controls organized crime in the Napoli region.

Italian authorities were searching for him since January 2025, when he escaped a European arrest warrant for murder aggravated by mafia-related offenses that was issued by the Court of Naples.

His fugitive days ended yesterday in a luxury resort in Vietri sul Mare, in the Salerno area, where Carabinieri arrested him.

“Mazzarella, 48, was fourth on the Ministry of the Interior’s list of the most dangerous fugitives (source in Italian). With this capture, the list of Italy’s so-called superlatitantes is reduced to three names: Attilio Cubeddu, Giovanni Motisi and Renato Cinquegranella.

In a plot twist that surely crushed the dream of any wannabe crime boss auditioning for *La Dolce Vita: Fugitive Edition,* Roberto Mazzarella was apprehended not in some gritty back alley or dark warehouse, but while sipping Limoncello poolside at a luxury resort in Vietri sul Mare. The authorities had been on his trail since January 2025, presumably playing an intense game of hide-and-seek while he perfected his tan and family selfies. Now that Italy’s Ministry of the Interior has pruned its “most dangerous fugitives” list down to a tidy trio, one can only hope the remaining mafiosi take this as a cue to retire gracefully or at least upgrade their vacation spots—because if you're going to be a fugitive, it might as well come with sea views and a minibar.
