A coordinated federal crackdown in Massachusetts has resulted in charges against nine suspects for social welfare benefit fraud schemes exploiting stolen identities. The schemes targeted taxpayer-funded programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), MassHealth, and Social Security benefits. The investigation, ongoing since December 2025, uncovered nearly $9 million in fraudulent activity.

In a sweeping federal sting, nine suspects—including illegal immigrants and U.S. citizens—have been slapped with charges after ripping off nearly $9 million from Massachusetts’ taxpayer-funded welfare programs like SNAP, MassHealth, and Social Security using stolen identities from Puerto Rican citizens. The high-stakes fraud ring allegedly exploited fake driver’s licenses and U.S. passports to cash in on benefits, forcing authorities to unleash relentless investigations that have led to crackdowns and potential decades behind bars. Homeland Security's Michael J. Krol vowed, “We will continue every day in this fight until we bring those responsible to justice,” signaling that this justice battle is far from over.
