New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani is standing by his call for protesters to hit the streets when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu comes to the city for the U.N. General Assembly in September, even after critics blasted the rhetoric as a dangerous escalation. Mamdani has repeatedly branded Netanyahu a “war criminal” and accused him of orchestrating “genocide” in Gaza, while Jewish leaders warn the mayor is “willing to risk inciting further violence based on misinformation.” The clash comes as tensions over the visit spike and after a recent stabbing attack in the city intensified fears about what this kind of rhetoric could unleash.
