Obama, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have long sent symbolic messages through their wardrobes. Today, however, on the day of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’s inauguration, the three powerful women made a sartorial statement, together.
As all three women made their way to the Capitol Building ahead of today’s swearing-in ceremony, they each showcased a look in a varying shade of purple. The choice for all three women to wear the shade—which is a literal mix of the political party colors, red and blue—may have indeed been intentional, considering the hue’s meaning to evoke a sense of solidarity, bipartisanship, and unity, according to The Hill.
