Chaos erupted outside Newark’s Delaney Hall ICE facility Sunday night as police in riot gear moved in, fired tear gas and arrested at least 20 agitators after masked demonstrators clashed with officers despite Mayor Ras Baraka’s 9 p.m. curfew. Doremus Avenue was shut down as authorities tried to keep crowds away from the building, while DHS warned of “ZERO tolerance for rioters” and Democrats blasted conditions inside the facility, claims DHS denies. By nightfall, the crowd had thinned to about 100, and New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill was on scene trying to calm the showdown, even saying she didn’t know what the masked agitators wanted.
