ICE is preparing to arm officers with shock-capable gloves designed to deliver a painful “bee sting” jolt to help subdue combative people — a move that could soon put thousands of the new devices in the field. The Department of Homeland Security says the agency plans to spend up to $20 million on the “conductive distraction and de-escalation devices” by March, as ICE doubles down on a tougher frontline tool already used in some jails and police departments.
