IBM is paying more than $17 million to settle Justice Department claims it crossed civil-rights lines with its DEI practices, with federal officials saying the company used race, sex and national origin in hiring decisions, altered interview criteria, and tied bonuses to demographic targets. IBM denies wrongdoing and says the deal is no admission of liability, but the case lands as another sharp blow in the Trump administration’s broad assault on DEI, one that has already pushed other major firms like T-Mobile and Meta to retreat.
