The US Navy is staring down a high-risk showdown in the Strait of Hormuz as it moves to enforce a blockade of Iranian ports within hours, with Tehran still able to hit shipping through IRGC speedboat swarms, mines and suspected underwater drones despite devastating strikes on its conventional navy. According to the Wall Street Journal, the force Iran actually relies on to grip the chokepoint remains largely intact — raising the stakes sharply as Donald Trump says the blockade begins today at 3pm UK time, after ceasefire talks collapsed.
