The FBI is issuing an alert about a growing risk to iPhone and Android users via mobile apps.

In the new alert, the FBI issued a warning to highlight data security risks associated with foreign-developed mobile applications that are frequently used in the United States. As of early 2026, many of the most downloaded and top-grossing apps in the country are developed and maintained by foreign companies, specifically those based in China.

The FBI is sounding the alarm: iPhone and Android users are facing a rising data-security threat from foreign-developed apps, especially those tied to China. In a fresh alert, the bureau warns that many of the most downloaded and highest-earning apps in the U.S. are maintained by Chinese companies — and because their digital infrastructure sits in China, Beijing may be able to tap user data under sweeping national security laws. The message is blunt: your phone could be feeding a foreign power.
