An American couple have been awarded a staggering $56 million from eBay after what was described as a campaign of “sadistic” and “obscene” harassment allegedly orchestrated by senior officials at the online giant. According to The Sunday Times’s senior US correspondent Louise Callaghan, the victims say the abuse went far beyond ugly messages — with a pig foetus, live cockroaches and underage porn magazines among the disturbing items reportedly mailed to them in the ordeal. “It was really just extraordinary, the level of harassment,” one source said, as the case laid bare a shocking abuse of power tied to the vendor’s upper ranks. The extraordinary payout caps a nightmare saga that has left eBay facing fierce scrutiny over how such a vicious campaign could unfold at all.
