eBay has agreed to pay $55.7 million to settle with a Massachusetts couple who say they were terrorized in a sick stalking campaign run by former company employees — a nightmare that brought threats, grotesque deliveries and real-world fear to their doorstep. Ina and David Steiner of Natick, publishers of ECommerceBytes, were targeted in 2019 with items including a bloody pig mask, live spiders and a book on surviving the death of a spouse, while porn magazines were mailed to neighbors and their home was listed on Craigslist for swingers. Investigators later traced the harassment back to eBay insiders; in 2020, the Justice Department charged seven executives and employees, with some later going to prison. The settlement ends a brutal chapter — and underscores just how far the scandal reached.
