Police in Madison have finally swept out a sprawling encampment that sprang up after homeless man Corey Ruiz was fatally shot by officers, ending a nearly two-week occupation that had turned a city block into a flashpoint, Fox 6 News Milwaukee reports. What started as grief and outrage quickly hardened into something bigger, with protests, tensions and an overnight atmosphere of unrest hanging over the area even after the cleanup. A Fox News Digital investigation found the demonstrations were heavily fueled by a coalition of communist, socialist and left-wing activist groups, including the Madison chapter of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, Freedom Inc. and the Freedom Road Socialist Organization. Those groups helped organize protests, keep the encampment going and press demands for the officer’s arrest, repeatedly branding him a “killer cop,” while Freedom Inc. said it had bailed out dozens of arrested protesters.
