Trump on Monday slashed two Utah national monuments in a sweeping land power move, signing an executive order that chops Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears by about 90% — from 3 million acres to 300,000. The monuments, created by Clinton and Obama, have long been flashpoints in the fight over federal control, and Trump blasted the original design as land “taken” from the people, declaring: “We’re giving it back.” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox backed the cut, calling the original boundaries wildly too large.
