DHS documents say U.S. officers intercepted a courier allegedly smuggling virus material from China, a case now raising fresh alarms over shadowy cross-border biological transfers. The courier told investigators he got the vials from Yusen Zhou of China’s Academy of Military Medical Sciences and was carrying them for University of Minnesota researcher Fang Li, with DHS and FBI testing confirming porcine epidemic diarrhea virus spike protein and partial immunoglobulin heavy chain precursor mRNA in the samples. The stakes are stark: possible foreign-linked biological materials moving through U.S. channels, and the evidence is now in federal hands.
