A Texas courtroom was hit with raw grief Monday as Camp Mystic director Edward Eastland broke down on the stand, sobbing while trying to recall his frantic, desperate efforts to evacuate girls in the dark as deadly floodwaters tore through the camp. Eastland spent more than five hours answering questions in the case brought by the parents of 8-year-old Cecilia “Cile” Steward, the only girl whose body has still not been found, after 27 young girls and counselors died in last year’s historic flooding. The family is suing to stop the Eastlands from reopening Camp Mystic this summer, with the camp’s license renewal still pending and a state criminal investigation also underway.
