New CDC data shows births to Black women in the U.S. fell more sharply than any other major racial or ethnic group in 2024, dropping 4% to 473,377, with the Black fertility rate sliding to one of its lowest levels on record as the overall national birth rate also sank to a historic low. Births rose among Hispanic and Asian women, but the Black decline — alongside falling teen births — is fueling alarm over a deepening demographic crisis and the growing impact of abortion expansion.
