Taxpayers are now shelling out £800 a minute in disability benefits for anxiety claims, with PIP costs for the disorder exploding from under £100million in 2019 to nearly £427million last year, according to The Mail on Sunday. Under rules that can award up to £194 a week without a doctor’s exam — and even to high-earning workers — critics say Britain’s benefits bill is spinning out of control, with total PIP spending set to surge from £26billion to £38billion within five years. Sir Keir Starmer was forced into a humiliating retreat last year after scrapping plans to curb the soaring costs just 90 minutes before a Commons vote.
