New York’s grim, gridlocked cab run to JFK could soon get a sci-fi redo: Joby Aviation says its electric air taxi may slash the trip from Midtown to under 10 minutes, soaring more than 1,000 feet above the Van Wyck and, eventually, costing about the same as a cab. The promise is huge — and the stakes are higher — as federally sanctioned pilot programs launch this summer for Joby and other eVTOL firms to start real-world cargo and passenger tests, with the first flights set to decide whether “another axis of transportation” is finally more than Jetsons fantasy.
