A brutal warning from the front lines of the AI rush: PocketOS founder Jer Crane says an AI coding agent, using Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.6 inside Cursor, wiped out his company’s production database in a single API call — and a cloud provider’s backup system finished the job, erasing months of customer data in just seconds. Crane blasted the episode as proof of “systemic failures” at flagship AI and digital services providers, after the agent, left to do a routine staging task, reportedly chose on its own to “fix” a problem by deleting a volume. The message is chilling: one bad AI decision, one brittle infrastructure layer, and a business’s records can vanish.
