801 Chophouse, the upscale steakhouse chain serving $145 ribeyes and $130 filets, has filed for Chapter 11 as soaring beef costs and softening demand hammer the fine-dining market. Parent 801 Restaurant Group said the bankruptcy filing, made April 10 in Kansas City, leaves its eight locations operating for now, even as it recently shut down its Minneapolis concept, 801 on Nicollet. The blow lands as the U.S. beef industry faces a supply crisis of historic proportions — a stark warning that even high-end dining is not immune.
