A Michigan sheriff is sounding the alarm after a whistleblower from the state’s Secretary of State office allegedly revealed a system that automatically registers non-citizens to vote when they change addresses — then congratulates them for it. Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf says clerks are coming in too late to catch the problem, the voter file doesn’t flag citizenship, and non-citizens can end up on the rolls and even in the jury pool before anyone notices. He says the matter has been referred to the Justice Department, raising fresh pressure on the fight over voter-ID and the SAVE Act.
