A sweeping summer crackdown has ripped through northern Ohio: more than 600 arrests and nearly 200 guns seized in Operation Northern Shield, a coordinated federal, state and local dragnet across eight cities aimed at violent crime, fugitives and drug trafficking. Officials say the May-through-July blitz also netted fentanyl, crack cocaine, methamphetamine and cash — a stark sign, they warn, of how deeply violence and narcotics are entwined as law enforcement targets the region’s hardest-hit neighborhoods.
