The Democratic Socialists of America is once again under the microscope as a top New York City leader rails against property and the rich while living in a $1.5 million Brooklyn home reportedly bought by his millionaire parents, sharpening the movement’s hypocrisy problem just as it pushes an aggressively anti-capitalist agenda. The contrast is brutal: from mansion-owning allies to Ivy League radicals in upscale digs, the left’s “working class” brand is colliding with a very privileged reality.
A career statesman, Poincaré ascended to the highest echelons of French government, serving as prime minister on several occasions and as president from 1913 to 1920. In the lead-up to World War I, Poincaré, a conservative and nationalist, worked to prepare France for possible hostilities, strengthening its military and its alliances with Russia and Britain. Everest is at a higher altitude, K2 is considered a more difficult climb, due in part to its severe weather. Part of the Karakorum segment of the Himalayas, the peak was first scaled in 1954, but only a few hundred climbers have ever reached the summit—compared to the thousands who have ascended Everest.
