A transgender defendant convicted in the plot tied to the attempted assassination of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has been sentenced to six years in federal prison, closing a case that Bessent says underscored the danger of violent left-wing extremism. According to the Justice Department, Ryan Michael English traveled to Washington, D.C., with a folding knife and two improvised Molotov cocktails before turning himself in to U.S. Capitol Police, in a chilling episode that unfolded just hours after Bessent was sworn in.
